Kindness

For those not familiar with serotonin, it's an organic compound produced in the brain that is responsible for good feelings such as well being and happiness. Depression is just one of the results when the brain is not able to manufacture or transmit enough serotonin. Many anti-depressents are designed to stimulate serotonin production and transmission.

Today I found out on a Wayne Dyer special that receiving an act of kindness has been proven to actually stimulate and increase serotonin production. It's like a shot of serotonin. I was glad to hear this. It means the people who have recently been so kind and supportive of me have actually made more of a difference than I realized. It goes down to a biological level.

But wait, theres more! It turns out doing an act of kindness actually increases serotonin. And just when I thought it couldn't get any better, studies have also shown that witnessing an act of kindness has the same effect on our serotonin. Anyone remember witnessing something kind and feeling good directly afterward?
