Is there such a thing as Goth-dar?

Now this is TOO funny!

At my temp jobs I'm conservative as hell. Behind my glasses and conservative/boring clothes and librarian hair style there's just no indication at all that I'm a semi-goth go-go dancer with a PVC fetish and an arsenal of pole dancing tricks picked up at a an erotic dance school. Nope. Just shy little conservative girl.

So there I am today temping in an office full of conservative engineers. Slacks and ties abound. But today I overhear one of the engineers, Myke, talking about how he does the lighting over at Circus Contraption. Seems odd because that's kind of an "alternative" circus if I recall correctly. So I casually mention that I know a few folks that do stuff for Circus Contraption.

So he looks at me and says, "I think I know you."

"From where?" I ask.

Myke replies, "The Mercury."

Me...trying to pry my jaw off the floor long enough to speak. "YOU go to the Mercury!?"

"I met you there once," he adds. "Only I was wearing dragon wings and a tail."

"And I think I know you from Utopia."

"Oh yeah," I said. "I was a go-go dancer there." And then I realize this guy has seen me wearing nothing but hot pants, thigh high boots and a tiny top. Not awkward at all!

Funny thing is, I liked this guy from the first day. Even thought he was kinda cute. And that's not like me since I'm not normally attracted to men and certainly not short haired conservative ones. Was I detecting that he was alternative in some way? Is this like gay-dar? Do I have some kind of goth or alternative-dar? Like if you've ever been to the Merc or worn tight PVC or buckle laden boots or possibly wings and a tail then I'm immediately drawn to you??
