I have pre-conceived ideas about drug addiction because I've known drug addicts and seen them destroy their lives and relationships. But I have no pre-conceived ideas about sex addiction and so I went into the first episode of the series somewhat confused and wondering what it was going to be like.
Here is what we encountered in the first episode so far (at least what I can remember):
*A rock star who has an endless supply of groupies that allows him to have sex 4 or 5 times per day. He estimates that he has had sex with roughly 3,000 women. He also admits to being lonely.
*A porn star that absolutely can't make an emotional connection with anyone she has sex with in her personal life. She won't even let men sleep over or cuddle her. She makes them all leave when she's done.
*A recovering drug addict who discovered sex as the next great high after she quit drugs. She goes out as many nights as she can to pick up men for sex, mostly at clubs and bars.
*A model who says if she starts to masturbate then she won't leave the house all day. She has stayed home and given herself up to 18 orgasms in one day.
*A sports star who is obsessed with sex, masturbation, porn, etc. every minute of the day. It has completely ruined his career. During the physical exam on the first day of rehab they discovered symptoms of what is probably an STD.
*A producer who never leaves the house because he spends all day at home doing computer porn. He regrets that he can never find or have a real relationship because he never leaves the computer.
There was also a married woman who was so staggeringly beautiful that it's almost painful to look at her. Seriously, she makes Angelina Jolie look like a plain Jane. Her problem is that she needs sex for approval and so she has cheated on every relationship she has ever been in. She's in sex rehab because she doesn't want to cheat on or lose her husband.
Dr. Drew said that sex rehab is much harder and more emotionally painful than drug rehab. I can also see how putting sex addicts of the opposite sex in the same rehab can cause a lot of problems. I will definitely be watching the rest of the season.
