Today I'm trying to tackle the little petty paperwork things. The department of labor has decided that I didn't file a quarterly report the 2nd quarter and is assessing a penalty. Lucky for me I pay a payroll service to do that for me. But now I have to drive over to Kinko's to fax the payroll service the info so they can check to see if they filed and figure out what went wrong.
The city also sent me another notice saying my business made more money in 2006 than my license qualified me to make. What they don't know is that my business didn't make that money, *I* did. I didn't start the business until April that year and before then I had a day job at a law firm. They think all that law firm income is business income, so they want to add a penalty for not reporting that as business income. Now I have to dig through files to find proof that it really was MY income and not related to the business that wasn't even open yet. And then of course I have to figure out a way to get all those documents to them (I really need to buy a scanner).
You get the idea. Days can be tied up with petty paperwork. I also have to e-mail my two new trainees and my two trainees that start training in November and get their schedules for November. I have to run a ton of errands for the business but be back by 4:30 to show the studio to a girl that wants to see it first before she registers for classes. And I need to unpack some more so I can find the recharger for my digital camera before tonight. I will also be teaching until about 9:30 tonight and after that I need to send out several pole party confirmations. I'm hoping to make this a short work day, like maybe 9:00am to 10:00pm.
