taking a beating

I've been learning a lot from this teacher in LA. Since she specializes in acrobatic safety, I have had to relearn all my pole tricks so that I do them using different muscles (ones that are more safe to use). And I can see now why I've needed so many massages every week to repair my body. I've been using my stomach, arm and shoulder muscles a ton for pole tricks...but hardly any back muscles. Now that I've spent a couple days learning how to change my positioning and posture and engage my back muscles, I feel beat up and sore as hell. I'm now using muscles I didn't use before. In addition, doing the tricks only from my dominant arm has developed the muscles on my right side a ton more than my left. This imbalance is also causing stress on my body. So not only do I have to start all over again with a new way to do my pole tricks, but I have to learn to do them all from my left side. It's like being a beginner all over again!!

I'm also sleeping a lot. Between all this dancing with muscles I don't normally use and all the shopping I've been doing, I have really exhausted my body. Everything is sore and tender and I feel like some one beat me up. But I guess it's not a fun vacation until you feel like you've been run over by a truck.
